Maintaining a blog for your organization is an excellent opportunity to give it human face and make your business more accessible to the public. If one of your marketing goals is to become a thought leader in your industry, a blog is one of the most important tools for you to accomplish that goal. If you are trying to improve your search engine rankings, blogging allows you to create fresh content, focusing on industry- specific keywords and topics, which can help move your website closer to those coveted first page listings.

Blogging is an integral component of Inbound Marketing and one of the top-rated places to learn this is at HubSpot Academy.

While the blog post content is what draws people to your page, there are certain elements that should be included with the post to increase repeat engagement, and to draw people into your sales funnel.

1. Strong title with keywords

The title of your post is probably the first and only thing someone sees before deciding whether or not to click on its link. It should contain a keyword, preferably near the beginning of the title, and should inspire someone to click through. Keep it between 65 and 70 characters, be concise and catchy.

2. Link text within your post

The content of your post offers an excellent opportunity to link to other blog posts you’ve written or landing pages for some of your content offerings. This draws attention to other blog posts or landing pages you’ve written that may interest your prospects.

3. Offer next steps

When the prospect reaches the end of your post, you need to offer the reader something to do next. Ask them a question, encourage them to leave a comment and engage with you. Offer a list of two or three other blog posts they may be interested in, with content related to the current post.

4. Provide a call to action (CTA)

Your blog should include several calls to action. If your blog has a sidebar, feature one or two CTAs to content offerings that are a focus for your company. At the end of your post, beneath the “next steps” embed a CTA to a related landing page. If the reader clicks through a CTA and fills out the form, they are added to your database, which gives you an opportunity to engage with them further.

5. Social sharing options

Make it easy for the reader to share the blog post with their fans and followers on social media. If they enjoy a post, they’ll want others to enjoy it, which will then lead to more awareness of your expertise.

6. Newsletter sign up

Give the reader an opportunity to sign up for a weekly or monthly newsletter. A newsletter offers the opportunity to regularly share blog posts, links to landing pages, and news about your company.

7. RSS feed subscription

Similar to a newsletter sign up, offering your RSS feed to readers allows them to subscribe to your blog posts, sending new posts directly to their feed reader.

When it comes to creating a great blog page for lead generation, the most important things to remember are:

- Write great content

- Offer the reader something else to do next

- Make it easy to engage and share
